Country: Israel, 2026 Director: David Fisher โฑ Runtime: 71 minutes ๐ Language: Hebrew and English ๐ฌ Subtitles: Hebrew Israeli Tuesday: Film and Encounter, Jerusalem Film Festival. At the age of 28, Elie Wiesel wrote a letter revealing his ambition to win the Nobel Prize in Literature for "Night," the book he wrote after being liberated from the death camps. Decades later he did indeed win a Nobel Prize โ but the Peace Prize. He lived his whole life within that gap. Wiesel turned himself into an icon and the conscience of the free world, yet the tuxedo he wore on stages around the world concealed the prisoner's pajamas he refused to part with. The film's director, whose father was on the same train to Auschwitz as Wiesel, sets out on a personal journey of inquiry, based on the belief that important people deserve more than admiration โ they deserve the truth. 71 minutes, Hebrew and English, Hebrew subtitles. Courtesy of Kan, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation. Following the screening there will be a conversation with director David Fisher and Professor Michael Berenbaum.
