"The Discovery: Weinberg's Musical Treasure" is a concert by the Jerusalem Israel Camerata, featuring cellist Hillel Zori. Weinberg's First Chamber Symphony gives the program its name, alongside orchestral works and repertoire for solo cello and orchestra. Concert program: Haydn — Symphony No. 81. Boccherini — Cello Concerto. Tchaikovsky — Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33. Weinberg — Chamber Symphony No. 1, Op. 145. The cello at center stage: the Variations on a Rococo Theme combine melodic cello writing with passages that demand agility and precision from the soloist. In this work, Tchaikovsky turned to the classical style and to the musical world of Mozart, whom he admired. The accompaniment of a small orchestra leaves room for the cello's voice and for the exchange of phrases between it and the orchestra's instruments. About the soloist, Hillel Zori: Hillel Zori is an Israeli cellist, winner of the First Prize and Gold Medal at the Maria Canals International Competition in Barcelona in 1986. His debut performance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zubin Mehta, took place in 1984. Alongside his performances as a soloist with orchestras, he is also active performing chamber music.
