Streisand had already played Fanny on the theater stage, and director William Wyler insisted on giving her the lead role in the film as well, even though she didn't have the classic look of a movie star. This marked the start of a legend, and one can't overlook the wonderful soundtrack, including the classic hit "People." In early 20th-century New York, Fanny grows up in the poor neighborhoods of the Lower East Side, determined to succeed in show business. She shines in her first role, becomes the star of the "Ziegfeld Follies," and rockets to fame. Meanwhile, she enters a romantic and troubled relationship with the charismatic gambler Nick Arnstein (Omar Sharif). 155 minutes, English, Hebrew subtitles.
