Country: UK/France, 2004 Director: Hugo Macgregor โฑ Runtime: 118 minutes ๐ Language: English, German and French ๐ฌ Subtitles: Hebrew Art Films โ Apos Festival for Art and Culture Films. He lied to and deceived his interrogators again and again, grew rich selling works plundered from Jewish families in Paris, was put on trial โ and acquitted โ and died peacefully at the age of 95. Bruno Lohse was an SS officer, one of the heads of Hitler's art-looting unit and Hermann Gรถring's personal art dealer. He plundered tens of thousands of works of art for them, and for himself. Historian Jonathan Petropoulos, the hero of this film, met him at his home and tried to extract some kind of confession from him โ and failed. After Lohse's death, a sprawling network of connections he had spun over the years with art dealers and museum curators around the world came to light. It turned out that some of them had been his Allied interrogators after World War II, who later became his partners in dubious deals. And so, the detective story told by the film exposes the cynicism, greed and intrigue of the art world. 118 minutes, English, German and French, Hebrew subtitles.
