The Israeli Vocal Ensemble, conductor: Yuval Ben Ozer. At the heart of the concert is the choral work by American composer David Lang, winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Music, based on the famous story by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, "The Little Match Girl." The fragile figure of a poor girl wandering on a freezing Christmas Eve, trying to sell matches to passersby hurrying to their warm homes — her loneliness and final visions have moved, and continue to move, generations of readers, and over the years the story has been adapted many times for the stage, cinema, and music. Alongside this work, a new piece by Zohar Sharon — composer, arranger, and founder of the Revolution Orchestra — will receive its world premiere.
