Country: UK/USA, 2025 Director: Matthew Persival, Christopher Nupen โฑ Runtime: 86 minutes ๐ Language: English ๐ฌ Subtitles: Hebrew Art films from the Epos Festival of Art and Culture Films. Sometimes a film simply needs an endearing personality that audiences will fall in love with, and Jacqueline du Prรฉ was exactly that. Her smile, her captivating stage presence, the wonderful music she drew from the cello, and also the fact that her amazing career, which began when she was still a child, was cut short at age 28 due to a serious illness โ all of this made her a beloved figure during her life and even more so after her death. Cellist Yo-Yo Ma tells du Prรฉ's life story in the film: from her childhood and her rivalry with her flutist sister Hilary, through her unprecedented success and performances that kept filling concert halls, the love story and marriage to Daniel Barenboim (they married in Israel when they came here during the Six-Day War), up to when she fell ill with multiple sclerosis and became disabled in her final years. Du Prรฉ recorded Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto โ the work most identified with her name โ at age 20. Eight years later she was forced to stop playing. 86 minutes, English, Hebrew subtitles. Screening and synopsis courtesy of the Epos Festival.
