Performers: Michael Schneider (Germany) — conductor; singers — to be announced. Program: Alessandro Scarlatti — the oratorio "La colpa, il pentimento e la grazia" ("Sin, Repentance and Grace"). In the sixth concert, closing the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra's season, the orchestra's longtime friend — German conductor Michael Schneider — returns. Under his baton, the rare oratorio composed by Alessandro Scarlatti in 1708, based on a libretto by Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni, will be performed for the first time in Israel. Rather than directly depicting the events of the Passion, the work centers on an inner drama between three allegorical figures — Sin, Repentance and Grace. From darkness, guilt and the recognition of human weakness, the dialogue leads toward hope and the redemptive meaning of the cross. Michael Schneider knows the score well and has already recorded the oratorio. In his interpretation, Scarlatti's music becomes a focused psychological theater, in which spiritual reflection, expressive arias and Baroque colors are woven into a single dramatic line.
